The low temperature performance of middle distillates is measured by three properties:
- Pour point – the lowest temperature at which fuel flows
- Cloud point – the temperature at which wax crystals are first visible
- Cold filter plugging point – the lowest temperature at which fuel can pass through a filter within a certain time

Many refiners still use solvent dewaxing processes to produce lube oil and wax base stock.
